Police and Crime Commissioner candidate opposes drug consumption rooms

CONSERVATIVE Police and Crime Commissioner candidate Ian Harrison says drug consumption rooms in Dyfed Powys would be totally inappropriate.

It follows an appearance by Dafydd Llywelyn on ITV Wales News in which he voiced his support for them.

Ian said he disagreed with the current Police and Crime Commissioner’s opinion that drug consumption rooms shouldn’t be discounted in Wales.

He said, “Daffyd Llewellyn has spent eight years looking the other way while reported crime has more than doubled. He has officially given up tackling drug crime and county lines gangs and has now turned to advocating drug consumption rooms.

“In a mainly rural landscape like ours, I would like to know where he would like to put them? The idea beggars belief, and I would be interested to know what the public in this area think of it.”

The UK Government is not in favour of supporting the introduction of consumption rooms, partly because of their potential to encourage the continued supply of illicit drugs.
