A NEW independent group has been formed on Rhondda Cynon Taf Council made up of two councillors.
The new group is formed of Councillor Will Jones of Treherbert (group leader) and Councillor Wayne Owen of Pontyclun West (deputy leader) who both used to be part of the RCT Independent Group.
It means that the council is made up of 59 Labour members, eight Plaid Cymru members, four RCT Independent Group members, two Conservative members and two Independent Group members.
After being approved by full council on Wednesday, October 25, the democratic services committee will be extended from 17 to 21 which the council report said will enable all political groups to be represented with both the Conservative Group and Independent Group having one seat each on this committee.
There will also be a change to the council pensions committee to include four Labour members and one Conservative member, a change to the membership of the constitution committee to include six Labour, one Plaid Cymru and one independent group member and a change to the membership of the licensing committee to include nine Labour, one Plaid Cymru and one RCT Independent Group member.
The allocation of notices of motion will see Labour have 12, Plaid Cymru have four, RCT Independent Group have two, Conservatives have one and the new independent group have one.
