Michael Sheen is set to portray the Duke of York in an Amazon series centered around the Newsnight interview that significantly damaged his public image.
Ruth Wilson, known for her role in Luther, will take on the role of journalist Emily Maitlis, who conducted a probing interview with the prince regarding his association with the late billionaire Jeffrey Epstein in November 2019.
The three-part series, titled “A Very Royal Scandal,” will chronicle Maitlis’s journey leading up to her confrontational encounter with Prince Andrew.
Currently in production in the UK, the Amazon Studios production features Maitlis as an executive producer. Since departing from Newsnight, Maitlis has been hosting “The News Agents” podcast alongside former BBC journalists Jon Sopel and Lewis Goodall.
Maitlis took to X to say: “Blimey. First time I’ve seen this in print. What an exceptional cast.”
The screenplay for the series is penned by Jeremy Brock, known for his work on “The Last King Of Scotland,” while Julian Jarrold, the director of “Becoming Jane,” is at the helm.
Notable cast members include Joanna Scanlan portraying Andrew’s former private secretary, Amanda Thirsk, Alex Jennings taking on the role of the late Queen’s private secretary, Sir Edward Young, and Eanna Hardwicke appearing as Newsnight editor Stewart Maclean.
