Heavy rainfall overnight has led to flooding in parts of Wales on Tuesday morning (December 19).
Natural Resources Wales has issued 18 flood alerts across the country, emphasising the widespread nature of the situation.
South Wales Police has issued a warning, announcing the closure of the Afan Valley road in both directions.
The closure spans between Pontrhydyfen and Cymmer, with flooding occurring approximately half a mile from the Pontrhydyfen turnoff. The police statement advised motorists to steer clear of the area and consider alternative routes whenever feasible.
Similarly, Dyfed Powys Police has cautioned about flooding on the A487 from LLanon to LLanrhystud in Ceredigion. This road is presently inaccessible due to flooding, prompting authorities to recommend seeking alternative paths for travel.
Transport for Wales has alerted travelers that services between Llanelli and Swansea are currently halted due to flooding.
National Rail has provided further details regarding the flooding situation in south Wales.
Due to flooding between Llanelli and Llandeilo / Gowerton, certain rail lines are obstructed. Trains operating between these stations may face cancellations or alterations.
The impacted services include those between Swansea and Llanelli / Llandoverery / Shrewsbury, as well as between Cardiff Central and Pembroke Dock / Carmarthen / Milford Haven, and among Milford Haven / Carmarthen and Manchester Piccadilly.
According to the Met Office forecast for Wales, the rain is expected to gradually diminish during the morning, giving way to a notably brighter afternoon with occasional showers. Tuesday’s forecast indicates an increase in wind, leading to a somewhat less mild feel. The maximum temperature is predicted to reach 10 °C.
