KING CHARLES will participate in the Trooping the Colour ceremony next month, inspecting the soldiers from a carriage, it is understood.
The annual event, which has marked the official birthday of the King or Queen for over 260 years, will take place on 15th June.
This confirmation follows Buckingham Palace’s need to cancel and review dozens of royal engagements after the General Election was called for 4th July.
Charles, who has recently resumed public-facing duties while receiving treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer, will now participate in one of the highlights of the royal calendar. However, it remains uncertain whether the Princess of Wales, who is undergoing chemotherapy following a cancer diagnosis, will attend.
The celebration, traditionally featuring the royal family gathering on the balcony of Buckingham Palace after a display of pomp and military pageantry, will be held on 15th June.
During the ceremony, which takes place on Horse Guards Parade in Whitehall, it is understood that the King will conduct the review of the Guardsmen and officers from an Ascot Landau carriage, accompanied by the Queen. This marks a change from last year’s ceremony, where Charles inspected the troops on horseback. The adjustment reflects earlier Buckingham Palace briefings indicating that each of the King’s engagements would be reviewed and adaptations made based on medical advice.
