Police issue update on Caerau incident as residents advised to stay indoors

POLICE have issued an update following an incident in the Caerau area of Cardiff on Tuesday evening (Jul 16). Residents were advised to remain indoors as South Wales Police responded to reports of a suspicious item.

Officers were first alerted to the scene at approximately 5:20 PM. The area was cordoned off, with emergency services working diligently to assess the situation. A resident reported that Lon Owain in Caerau was blocked off and that he remained inside his property for about two and a half hours while the investigation took place.

By 9:00 PM, the initial response concluded. On Wednesday morning, South Wales Police provided further information, confirming that the item was not harmful. The cordon around the area was lifted at around 9:40 PM on Tuesday evening.

A spokesperson for South Wales Police stated: “At 5:20 PM on Tuesday, we received information about a suspicious item in Lon Owain, Caerau. The substance was confirmed as not harmful, and the cordon was lifted at around 9:40 PM.”

This incident caused significant concern among residents, but the prompt and thorough response by the authorities ensured that the area was swiftly declared safe. The situation has now been resolved, with normality returning to the community.
