A SIGNIFICANT discovery of cannabis farms has been made in Neath following the sharp eyes of a police helicopter. The airborne unit detected a suspiciously strong heat source emanating from two residential addresses, leading to a substantial police operation.
In a coordinated effort, South Wales Police, alongside British Transport Police’s territorial support teams, executed drug warrants at properties on Richmond Street and Osborne Street. The operation resulted in the seizure of cannabis worth an estimated £126,000, marking a notable victory in the ongoing battle against illegal drug activities in the region.
A statement from South Wales Police detailed the operation: “Neath officers executed two drugs warrants at Richmond Street and Osborne Street, Neath last week in partnership with South Wales Police and British Transport Police’s territorial support teams. Both warrants were successful, with £126,000 of cannabis seized.”
Inspector Ryan Davies of South Wales Police commented on the success of the operation: “This was a significant disruption of illegal drug activity which was indicative of our ability to work through the night to target industrial-sized plantations in our community. These addresses were identified from pictures taken from a police helicopter which clearly showed a strong heat source at the addresses.”
The discovery and subsequent seizure underscore the effectiveness of aerial surveillance in the fight against drug-related crimes. The heat signatures detected from the helicopter provided crucial evidence leading to the warrants and eventual busts.
Residents in Neath have praised the efforts of the police, expressing relief at the removal of such a large quantity of illegal drugs from their community. Authorities are urging anyone with information about drug activity to come forward and assist in further cleaning up the area.
