THREE candidates will contest the upcoming election to represent the Aberbargoed and Bargoed ward in Caerphilly County Borough Council.

Polling day will take place on Thursday August 15 to elect a new ward councillor, following the death of Cllr Dianne Price.
The candidates are:

  • Chris Bissex-Foster (Welsh Labour)
  • Joshua Declan McCarthy (Plaid Cymru)
  • Mark Thomas (Green Party)

Cllr Price passed away in April, having represented the Bargoed area for 20 years – including a spell as mayor of Caerphilly County Borough.

Following her death, Cllr Price was described in tributes as a “colourful, much-loved character” who was a “champion” for her town.

Bargoed Town Council said Cllr Price had “worked tirelessly to improve the quality of life for her residents for well over 20 years, and will be hugely missed”.

An election will also take place on August 15 to choose two new Bargoed Town Council representatives.

Five candidates will compete for the two vacancies. They are:

  • Chris Bissex-Foster (Welsh Labour)
  • Paul Davies (Independent)
  • Gill Jones ( Plaid Cymru)
  • Joshua Declan McCarthy (Plaid Cymru)
  • Michael Roberts (Welsh Labour)

More information about both elections, including how to apply for postal and proxy votes, is available on the Caerphilly County Borough Council website.
