Families with disabled children in Wales benefit from National Lottery funding

DISABILITY charity Contact has been awarded £498,712in National Lottery funding to deliver a project to build resilience among families with disabled children in Wales.

Launching in Summer 2024, the three-year project called Building Resilience aims to reach almost 10,000 families across Wales.

Contact’s team in Wales will provide both online and face-to-face support in partnership with Welfare Rights and Citizen Advice. The project will focus on understanding each family’s unique needs and delivering tailored support, ensuring that families get the help they need.

Kate Wyke, Wales Manager at Contact, said: “We are delighted to have secured such a large award and are very grateful to the National Lottery Community Fund for their generous support.

“It has been a challenging time for families with disabled children, what with the cost of living and austerity impacting services they heavily rely on.

“This funding will allow us to support families across Wales, building resilience and improving confidence and helping them navigate these challenging times.”

The new funding is from The National Lottery Community Fund, which distributes money raised by National Lottery players for good causes and is the largest community funder in the UK.

National Lottery players raise over £30 million a week for good causes across the UK. Thanks to them, last year, the National Lottery Community Fund distributed over half a billion pounds (£615.4 million) of life-changing funding to communities.
