Work begins at new retirement community in Cowbridge

WORK will shortly be underway in Cowbridge to create a new McCarthy Stone Retirement Living development, exclusively for over 60s, with independence and community at its heart.

The development on the site of Darren Farm will offer local retirees a fully tailored solution to suit their lifestyle and individual needs, and which puts their wellbeing at the forefront. Initial work, as pictured, has focused on clearing and levelling the site, with old farm buildings being removed. Ahead of construction beginning, work will take place to improve access to the site, ensuring the junction will be safe for all users.

The UK’s leading manager and developer of retirement communities hopes to welcome first occupants in Spring 2027, with the first phase of apartments expected to be released for sale in late 2026.

This new addition to Cowbridge will offer a collection of 50 low-maintenance, stunning one and two-bedroom retirement apartments, available to buy outright and designed to support the over 60s to make the most of their retirement years. They will be privately owned, and whilst prices are not yet available, it is expected they’ll be set in line with the local market.

Each property will benefit from access to superb communal spaces, including a well-appointed homeowners lounge and beautiful landscape gardens for both socialising and relaxing alike. There will also be a handy guest suite for friends and family to stay overnight.

The commercial office premises due to be constructed on the site forms part of the same planning application but is separate to McCarthy Stone’s project, and is expected to be completed after the retirement apartments.

Rebecca Johnson, Sales Director at McCarthy Stone, said: “We are delighted to be bringing our retirement lifestyle to Cowbridge, with site works now beginning. Once complete, it will offer a fantastic opportunity for retirees to downsize and focus on doing the things they enjoy most, such as exploring the Vale of Glamorgan countryside or enjoying a wander around the local independent shops and busy high street.

“Each of our developments are designed to offer safety and companionship combined with privacy and independence within a vibrant community of like-minded individuals. We’re expecting demand for this prestigious new development to be high, so would encourage anyone interested in learning about how McCarthy Stone can help them make the most of their retirement to get in touch as soon as possible.”

For peace of mind, a House Manager will be on-site during office hours to oversee the day-to-day running of each development, while a 24/7 emergency call system and camera entry system in each property means homeowners can feel safe and secure.

More than nine out of 10 customers would recommend McCarthy Stone to a friend, ensuring it has received the full Five Star award for customer satisfaction from the Home Builders Federation. McCarthy Stone is the only UK housebuilder of any size or type to achieve this rating every year it has taken part in the survey.
