NEATH PORT TALBOT Council has gone out to public consultation on plans for improved active travel options in and around Neath town centre.

Residents are now being asked to give their opinions on proposals that look to make local walking and cycling routes “safer, more accessible, and sustainable,” as part of the council’s “commitment” to improving health and wellbeing in the borough.

They will also look to improve the local environment while reducing congestion in the town with the proposals subject to the council gaining grant funding from the Welsh Government.

A council spokesman said there are currently three potential routes being considered for improvement- the first being along Neath Abbey Road, Cadoxton Road, and Bridge Street, as well as a second on a section of Gnoll Park Road.

Additionally there could also be improvements made to Cadoxton Road, B4434, Riverside Road, and Prince of Wales Drive, if eventually taken forward by the authority.

A council spokesman said: ” Implementation of the proposed measures will be subject to the council receiving grant funding from the Welsh Government.  It is important for residents to note that Active Travel funding can only be used by the council for improvements to walking, cycling, and wheeling projects and cannot be used for any other purpose.”

The consultation will now be open for feedback until April 7 via the council’s website or a physical questionnaire at Neath Library.
