COMMUNITY groups in Amlwch and Cemaes can now apply for funding from the Porth Wen Community Benefit Fund, which offers £10,000 for local projects. Menter Môn has launched the first round of applications, aiming to support initiatives that strengthen community ties, improve outdoor spaces, celebrate local heritage, and promote biodiversity.
The fund, established by EDF Renewables, acknowledges that Cemaes and Amlwch will host the Porth Wen solar farm for the next 30 years. It is therefore an opportunity for residents to submit ideas and applications for funding up to £2,000 per project that will benefit their communities and address ongoing local challenges, such as economic growth and demographic changes.
Erin Thomas, Menter Môn’s Project Officer encouraged people to apply for funding: “We want to spark conversations about what communities need and help turn ideas into reality. This fund can support meaningful projects and contribute to worthwhile local projects.”
As part of the fund’s rollout, another £10,000 has already been allocated to local schools in Cemaes and Amlwch for educational initiatives.
Dafydd Gruffydd, Managing Director of Menter Môn, added: “This is an opportunity for individuals, groups, social enterprises, and businesses to develop projects that will make a difference to them.
“We are ready to work with the communities, community councils, and other partners to ensure the fund is used effectively, be that for community gardens, sporting activities, or local events.”
Residents are asked to review the guidelines and submit their project ideas, outlining the benefits to the community and the funding required. The deadline for applications is 30 May 2025. A total of £8,000 is available for Cemaes and £2,000 for Amlwch, with a maximum of £2,000 per application.
More details and application forms are available on the Menter Môn website.
Menter Môn has expressed its thanks to EDF Renewables for their valuable support of local communities through this initiative.
