SAM ROWLANDS, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, joins young footballers at a festival in Wrexham.

Mr Rowlands, a keen football fan recently attended the ‘Festival of Football’, hosted by SP Energy Networks and Wrexham AFC at the Wrexham University Astroturf pitch.

He said: “I am always happy to see children getting involved in sport and I was delighted to accept the invitation to support this great initiative.

“It was fantastic to see so many girls enjoying their football and to have the opportunity to talk to those taking part in the fun and interactive games.

“Football is of course a hot topic in Wrexham at the moment as the local team is riding high in the league with another chance of being promoted again.

“It was a pleasure to get involved and meet up with organisers and Wrexham players.”

This festival celebrated the renewal of SP Energy Networks’ partnership with the Wrexham AFC community team, aimed at providing quality football coaching to over 1,000 young girls throughout North Wales.

This initiative reflects the dedication of SP Energy Networks to supporting young athletes and fostering pathways to careers in STEM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics).

During the session 100 Year 3 girls from various local primary schools took part in football activities and had the chance to learn about staying safe around electricity networks.

SP Energy Network also highlighted the contributions of women in STEM careers. Alongside a female player from Wrexham, a representative from SP Energy Networks discussed the opportunities available for women in these fields.
