NEATH Port Talbot Council is making it easier than ever to plan and run events with a new Event Policy now in place.
The policy was formally adopted following a Cabinet meeting in August 2024, after an in-depth review of how events and festivals are delivered in the county borough and has been launched this month.
The council has put a new team in place to support event organisers and film companies. The team will act as a ‘one stop shop’ for all events and filming enquiries in the County Borough to help in streamlining event planning, enhancing safety and in supporting the sector.
Cllr Cen Phillips, Cabinet Member for Nature, Tourism and Wellbeing said: “This policy is a significant step forward in the way events, festivals, and filming are managed across the county borough.
“The policy will not only provide a supportive, and transparent process for organisers but it will also ensure events are safe, well-managed, and contribute positively towards the economic growth, the wellbeing of our communities and in attracting visitors to the area.
“We are excited to hit the ground running now that the new team is in place. I would encourage all event organisers to review the new Event Policy, and to contact the new team with any queries.”
Key Event Policy changes include:
- Advice and support: The newly formed Event & Filming office will be led by a team of experienced professionals offering guidance and working closely with the council’s internal departments, such as highways, to simplify the event application process.
- Dedicated webpage & contact point: A new events landing page has been developed on the NPT Council website, providing a ‘one-stop resource’ for event organisers. This includes key information, industry updates, a payment portal, and guidance to support event planning.
- Fees & Charges: A structured fee system will be introduced for the use of council land, ensuring a fair and transparent approach for both commercial and non-profit events. Additional charges may apply for services such as road closures, waste management, parking suspensions, and ground reinstatement.
This initiative highlights the council’s commitment to fostering a programme of vibrant and sustainable events which benefit residents, businesses, and attract visitors.
