NATIONAL Trust Cymru is thrilled to announce an innovative new creative commission with the renowned Welsh artist, Bedwyr Williams. This collaboration comes in the form of a new Instagram account @tindroi_dawdle and brings a fresh and unique artistic vision to the historical and cultural landscapes under the care of National Trust Cymru.
Experience National Trust Cymru in a whole new way through the eyes of the artist Bedwyr Williams. Appropriating some familiar and much-loved individuals from Williams’ highly popular Instagram account (@bedwyr_williams), this new account follows some of the characters as they visit National Trust Cymru places for the first time.
Bedwyr Williams shared his thoughts, stating: “I’m interested to see how my characters are affected by National Trust properties. Visiting old sites, apart from the obvious educational pleasure, usually bring on a lot of introspection in me.
“Not that I imagine being an earl or a butler, but something about being in a preserved silent space is like being in a melancholy incubator. I think this will happen to the characters too, even some of the gauche ones.”
This is an exciting six-month project, taking visitors on an alternative and often humorous tour, dawdling around National Trust Cymru places. The account name “Tîn Droi” comes from the Welsh translation of “dawdle,” and will depict the characters as they explore the variety of National Trust Cymru properties around Wales.
This project comes as part of National Trust Cymru’s year of culture, where Wales in all its diverse nature, beauty and history is being celebrated through a programme of cultural and creative events and activities.
Helen Pye, Assistant Director for National Trust Cymru said: “We are really excited about this creative commission with Bedwyr Williams, and the opportunity it provides to see all these beautiful and historically significant places through fresh eyes.
“We also hope it inspires visitors to explore and embrace imagination and creativity when they visit National Trust Cymru places across Wales.”
