On Saturday, 14 June, more than 25 people gathered in the centre of Knighton to take part in a silent vigil mourning the ongoing suffering in Gaza. Organised by Radnor Palestine Links, the vigil was the latest in a series of regular actions drawing attention to the devastating impact of the war in Gaza and the West Bank.
Protesters stood in silence to reflect on what they described as a genocide being supported by the UK and USA. They pointed to ongoing Israeli military actions, including home demolitions in the West Bank, a widening conflict with Iran, and widespread starvation and bombing in Gaza, where over 55,000 people have reportedly died.
Local participants expressed deep emotion during the vigil.
Alisha Hegarty said: “As I stood in silence, I thought—what if the swifts circling overhead were deadly drones?”
Charlie Grafton added: “One day, everyone will say they were always against this.”

Rolly Bee commented: “The eyes of the world must not be distracted from what is going on in Gaza.”
Ann Mary Davies was visibly distressed, stating: “The UK is supporting Israel.”
Radnor Palestine Links continues to hold these vigils fortnightly to call for an end to the violence and greater public awareness.
