Neath Port Talbot Council hits recycling targets for the year

Neath Port Talbot Council

NEATH Port Talbot Council said it has reached its annual recycling targets set by the Welsh Government for the 2024/25 financial year.

The announcement was first made by officers at an environment, regeneration and street-scene scrutiny committee meeting held in May 2025.

Here members heard how the authority achieved a recycling rate of 71.4%, which was above the target of 70%, and had put Neath Port Talbot among the top-performing areas in Wales.

A council spokesperson said the “outstanding” figures were also the highest recycling rate the county borough has ever had.

Officers at the meeting said while there were still improvements to come with the service, the figure had been the result of a massive push from the authority, its recycling teams, and residents, who took it from having an under 10% recycling rate to over 70% in the last 20 years.

Cllr Scott Jones, Neath Port Talbot Council’s cabinet member for street-scene, added: “Achieving such outstanding levels of recycling is only possible when residents and local businesses rise to this considerable challenge.

“This is really something we can all be very proud of. Residents of Neath Port Talbot are truly great recyclers. Thank you all and congratulations to everyone.”
