Bomb threat on Cardiff flight prompts emergency response in Lanzarote

SPANISH authorities activated an emergency response at César Manrique Airport in Lanzarote on Thursday (June 19), following a bomb threat aboard a TUI flight that had departed from Cardiff, Wales.

TUI flight TOM6422 was en route to Lanzarote when the crew discovered a handwritten note on board claiming there was a bomb on the aircraft. The crew immediately notified air traffic control as the plane approached the island.

In a statement, Aena, the Spanish airport operator, confirmed:
“César Manrique-Lanzarote Airport has activated the emergency plan due to an alleged security threat on a flight from Cardiff.”

Upon landing, the aircraft was directed to a secure remote area of the airfield. All passengers were safely disembarked, and the Civil Guard, along with emergency services and the armed forces, began conducting thorough security checks.

There have been no reports of injuries, and investigations are ongoing.
