A BUSY road has reopened in Brynmill, Swansea, after a sinkhole caused by a collapsed former manhole below led to diversions.

Investigations of and repairs to the section of Brynymor Crescent near the junction of Westbury Street have taken just over three weeks.

“This should be great news for local businesses, residents and motorists who regularly use this route,” said Cllr Andrew Stevens, cabinet member for environment and infrastructure.

He said the council’s highways maintenance teams had done an excellent job to repair the road as quickly as they had.

This was echoed by Uplands Party councillors Peter May and Stuart Rice, whose Uplands ward includes Brynmill. “When a sinkhole opens, there are a lot of unknowns to examine before an repair can be carried out,” said Cllr May.

Cllr Rice said it was good news for nearby traders who had been affected. “Hopefully it will now be business as usual again for them in the crucial run-up to Christmas,” he said.
