PLANS to develop housing on the site of a former Bridgend care home have been handed in to the local authority.

The proposal put forward by Bellway Homes could see the former elderly care home and historic boys home at Craig Y Parcau Bridgend developed in to 120 new residential homes if eventually given the go-ahead.

The site is located south of Bridgend between the A48 and New Inn Road on two distinct parcels of land roughly 7.28 hectares in size.

The plans would see the demolition of the existing buildings at the site including the former Llanerch Residential Home and Craig Y Parcau boys home which are said to be in “varying states of disrepair”.

Under the scheme these would make way for the new properties that would be made up of two, three, four, and five bedroom homes with car parking spaces and private drives.

Around 24 of these would be set aside as affordable housing with many of the existing trees and ancient woodland running centrally to the site being retained.

The plans read: “This scheme proposes a residential development comprising a mix of high quality and future-proofed, 1 bed flats, 2, 3, 4, and 5-bed homes, supporting Bridgend County Council’s housing target and local needs.

“The proposed residential scheme benefits from a highly accessible and well-connected location, positioned close to the A48 and within easy reach of Bridgend town centre.”

The development site is currently allocated for housing as part of Bridgend County Borough Council’s Local Development Plan.

It follows an application to build three large luxury homes on the site which was rejected by the council in 2008.

A pre-application consultation over the latest plans was carried out by planning consultants in November of 2025, with feedback from residents raising concerns about increased traffic on the A48 and lack of safe pedestrian crossing.

The application will now be considered by Bridgend Council’s planning department in the coming months.
