PROPOSALS for 22 affordable homes are to be considered on land beside an existing housing estate at Holyhead.

Anglesey County Council planners have received a full application to build housing on land beside the Pentrefelin and Stad Waenfawr Estate at Holyhead.

The application by DU Construction and Clwyd Alyn Housing Ltd will also include the creation of an internal access road, together with associated works.

The scheme says it aims to deliver the homes “to meet an identified local housing need”.

The proposed site lies on the western fringe of Holyhead and is comprised of rough semi-improved grassland and scrub.

Residential properties are located directly adjoining the eastern, western and southern boundaries on the site known as Waenfawr, Pentrefelin and Lon Newydd.

The planning application seeks to erect two-storey buildings to be developed by local house builder DU Construction Ltd.

The homes would be owned and managed by Clwyd Alyn Housing Association as a local Registered Social Landlord.

The homes would be semi-detached comprising a mix of unit sizes and types including two-storey houses and apartments/flats designed to reflect the appearance of semi-detached dwellings.

The properties are to include two-person one-bed flats, 10 four-person two-bed houses, two five-person three-bed houses; and two seven-person four-bed houses.

Vehicle access to the proposed development would be gained from the residential estate of Pentrefelin to the west, with an internal access road and pedestrian pavements within the site linking the proposed development to the existing residential estate.

No vehicular or pedestrian access would be provided from Waenfawr Estate to the east and a public footpath which runs along the site’s southern boundary would be unaffected.

“The materials proposed would be rendered with red brick, slated roofs, which would be in-keeping with and would complement the design and appearance of other properties nearby,” the plans say.

Each dwelling would also be served by two or three parking spaces, along with four visitor car parking spaces.

The application states: “The proposal represents a high-quality, policy-compliant development that addresses local housing need, promotes place-making principles, and contributes positively to the social, economic, and environmental well-being of Holyhead.

“It will deliver a sustainable, attractive, and accessible residential environment for local people.

“Its design has combined elements of the surrounding properties to develop a modern but contemporary proposal.

“The properties use a gable feature to create a homely feel, using off-white render as the main material with red brick features to vary the elevational frontage.”
