Street brawl revenge attack lands five in jail

Family armed themselves with nail-studded plank, hammer and sticks after windows were smashed in Swansea street violence

FIVE people have been jailed after a revenge-fuelled street brawl in Swansea saw members of the same family arm themselves with weapons including a plank studded with nails.

Swansea Crown Court heard the violence followed an earlier attack on the Jenkins family home in Rhodfa’r Brain, Ravenhill, on June 6.

The court was told that brothers Adam Miller and Kristian Thomas believed Corey Jenkins was involved in drug dealing in the area. Acting on that belief, the pair went to the Jenkins family property carrying golf clubs and smashed several downstairs windows before leaving and heading to the nearby home of a relative, David Dallimore.

In response, Paul Jenkins, Christopher Jenkins, Corey Jenkins and Lisa Jenkins armed themselves and went to Dallimore’s address, where the confrontation spilled out into the street.

Footage played in court showed the disorder unfolding on CCTV and mobile phones. Corey Jenkins was seen carrying a wooden plank with nails driven through it as well as a metal pole. Paul Jenkins had a hammer, while Christopher Jenkins and Lisa Jenkins were armed with sticks.

During the violence, neighbour Kirsty Choi was struck on the head with a metal pole by Thomas as she tried to help an injured member of the Jenkins family.

Sentencing, Judge Catherine Richards said Miller and Thomas had started the chain of events by taking the law into their own hands and attacking the Jenkins home. But she said the Jenkins family then escalated matters by arming themselves and taking part in what she described as vigilantism.

The judge said the violence had caused fear and alarm in the community, with innocent residents forced to witness a serious armed confrontation on their street.

Paul Jenkins, 64, Christopher Paul Jenkins, 45, Corey Jenkins, 23, and Lisa Dawn Jenkins, 45, all of Rhodfa’r Brain, Ravenhill, had admitted violent disorder and possession of an offensive weapon.

The court heard Paul and Christopher Jenkins both had previous convictions, while Corey and Lisa Jenkins had previously been of good character.

Kristian Dale Thomas, 39, of Tudno Place, Penlan, had admitted criminal damage and was convicted after trial of unlawfully wounding Miss Choi. The court heard he had an extensive criminal record including offences involving weapons, affray, grievous bodily harm with intent and handling stolen goods.

Adam Miller, 34, also of Tudno Place, Penlan, had admitted criminal damage and possession of an offensive weapon. He too was said to have an extensive record, including affray, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, arson and criminal damage.

Both Miller and Thomas were cleared by the jury of violent disorder relating to the Rhodfa’r Brain incident. Dallimore was also found not guilty.

With credit for their guilty pleas, Paul Jenkins and Christopher Jenkins were each jailed for 18 months. Corey Jenkins was sentenced to 22 months in prison.

Lisa Jenkins was given an 18-month prison sentence suspended for 18 months. She was also ordered to complete 250 hours of unpaid work and comply with a nightly curfew for two months.

Miller was jailed for nine months.

Thomas was sentenced to 26 months in prison, with the conviction for wounding Miss Choi significantly increasing the length of his sentence.

The Herald understands the case followed a police investigation supported by CCTV and mobile phone footage which captured the disorder in detail.
