Southwest Welsh artisan cheesemaker celebrates Tesco success

CAWS CENARTH, the award-winning artisan Welsh cheese producer, is celebrating a successful first few months in Tesco stores following the launch of its cheeses into the retailer’s popular Grab and Go range last November.

The strong performance from the family-run business highlights growing customer demand for high-quality, handcrafted cheese, as more shoppers look for premium, locally sourced options in convenient easy to purchase formats.

Since being introduced into selected large Tesco stores in Wales, Caws Cenarth’s range of artisan cheeses – Thelma’s Original Caerffili (PGI), Perl Wen, Cenarth Brie, and Perl Las – have quickly proven popular with Welsh customers, driven by its traditional cheesemaking methods, rich flavours and commitment to quality.

The success has marked a significant step forward for the family-run business, which has now expanded its team and appointed a new Commercial Director, Paul Garnish, to support its continued growth and strengthen its partnership with Tesco.

Paul will play a key role in driving the business forward, supporting retail partnerships, identifying new opportunities and helping the brand build on the momentum created through its successful Tesco launch.

Founded in West Wales, Caws Cenarth has built a reputation for producing exceptional cheeses using locally sourced milk and time-honoured techniques, combining heritage with innovation to meet modern consumer tastes.

The milestone reflects not only the strength of the brand, but also the increasing appetite among customers for premium Welsh produce that delivers both quality and convenience.

Tesco Wales buyer Nathan Edwards said: “We’re delighted to see Caws Cenarth go from strength to strength with their artisan cheeses in our Grab and Go range.

“Customers are increasingly looking for high-quality, locally sourced options, and this success is a fantastic example of how Welsh suppliers like Caws Cenarth are meeting these needs.

“Caws Cenarth’s commitment to craftsmanship and quality really stands out, and we’re proud to support their continued growth.”

Caws Cenarth’s continued success demonstrates the strength of Welsh food production and the growing role of artisan producers in helping deliver locally sourced, great quality produce to consumers.

Caws Cenarth Managing Director Carwyn Adams said: “We’re absolutely delighted with how our cheeses have been received by Tesco customers.”

“It’s incredibly rewarding to see more people enjoying what we do, especially as a family business rooted in West Wales.”

“We’ve always believed in making cheese the right way – with care, quality ingredients and respect for tradition – and it’s exciting to be able to share that with a wider audience.”

“This is just the beginning, and we’re looking forward to building on this momentum.”

The partnership forms part of Tesco’s wider commitment to championing local suppliers and bringing the very best of regional produce to customers across the UK, supporting local economies and small businesses.
