NEATH PORT TALBOT Council has re-elected its returning leader for the year after a decision at the authority’s annual general meeting.

Independent councillor Steve Hunt of Crynant, Onllwyn, and Seven Sisters will retain his position as leader for the 2026-27 financial year.

He will be joined by returning deputy leader councillor Alun Llewelyn of Cwmllynfell and Ystalyfera.

Addressing the chamber after his re-election Cllr Hunt said: “Firstly can I just thank members of council for bestowing upon me the greatest honour once more.

“It’s an honour and a privilege to lead such a diverse fantastic county borough council as Neath Port Talbot is.”

Cllr Llewellyn added: “Our coalition administration will continue to work for all the communities of our county borough despite the challenges still facing all local authorities.

“We will of course continue to work on a cross-party basis with all members here, and with all the Senedd members elected in the two constituencies that cover Neath Port Talbot, and the members of the UK parliament, to work for the best interests of our area.”
