British Truck Racing Championship thunders into Pembrey for the Convoy Cymru Festival

THE BRITISH British Truck Racing Championship (BTRC) thunders into Pembrey Circuit on June 20-21, bringing a field of five-tonne, 100mph racing trucks to the Convoy Cymru Truck Racing Festival. With the championship battle tighter than ever and five action-packed races scheduled across the weekend, spectators are guaranteed a spectacular display of wheel-to-wheel truck racing at the ‘Home of Welsh Motorsport.’

Competition has never been closer in the BTRC, with four different drivers sharing the victories across the opening rounds at Brands Hatch and Thruxton. With a capacity 20 trucks lining up on the Pembrey grid, five spectacular ground-shaking races are guaranteed at the ‘Home of Welsh Motorsport.’

The BTRC standings could hardly be closer as the drivers get ready for their only visit of the season to Wales, and every point scored at Pembrey will be crucial in the battle for this year’s prestigious BTRC’s title.

2011 champion David Jenkins (Jenkins Motorsport Development MAN TGS) will arrive at Pembrey leading the premier Division 1 class.

Ryan Smith (Worldwide Truck Racing Daimler Freightliner), who is aiming to make history this year by becoming the first driver to win 11 titles in the premier class, sits just six points adrift.

Ten-time champion Stuart Oliver (Team Oliver Racing Volvo VNL), a man regarded by many as one of the greatest truck racing drivers of all time, is just one point behind Smith in third.

Another driver to watch at Pembrey is Terry Gibbon, as he replaces series veteran Richard Collett (who claimed a popular victory at Brands Hatch back in April, but is recovering from major surgery) in the Team Collett Truck Racing MAN TGX.

Reigning Division 2 champion Jake Evans (Jake Evans Trucksport MAN TGX) will land at Pembrey leading the class for highly modified production-based trucks.

2024 Division 2 champion John Powell (JP Truck Racing DAF XD) is second in class, while Bradley Harvey (Weaver Motorsport DAF CF) is third in only his second season of truck racing.

There will be five BTRC races, spread over the two-day Convoy Cymru Truck Racing Festival.

In addition to the giants of motorsport roaring around the 1.456-mile Pembrey National Circuit, there will be a packed support race package featuring the sensational Pickup Truck Racing Championship, Audi Cup, Civic Cup, Mini Challenge Trophy and Junior Saloon Car Championship.

Plus, there will be Tractor Pulling demonstrations on Pembrey’s purpose-built track and non-stop entertainment for all the family – including funfair rides, monster truck rides, live music, a food village and of course the circuit’s famous Formula 1 bar and restaurant.

Phil Davies, Pembrey Circuit Manager, said: “Few forms of motorsport put on a show quite like truck racing and the British Truck Racing Championship never disappoints when it visits Pembrey.

“With the championship battle so finely poised, five spectacular races on the schedule and a capacity grid of trucks expected, all the ingredients are in place for a memorable Convoy Cymru Truck Racing Festival weekend.

“Combined with our packed off-track entertainment programme, there’s something for everyone to enjoy, whether you’re a dedicated motorsport fan or looking for a great family day out.”

Advanced tickets cost just £22, while children 12 and under go free.
