ON SUNDAY, May 31, twenty choristers from Côr Meibion De Cymru – The South Wales Male Voice Choir, their MD Elaine Robins, and the choir’s wonderful ‘Welsh Ladies’ support team completed the inaugural Ten Bandstands Challenge – 10 bandstand concerts across the breadth of South Wales in 1 day – a red wave of singing.
The challenge started at 7.00pm at The Rath Bandstand in Milford Haven. The challenge ended in Victoria Park Bandstand, Cardiff, just before 8.00pm, the choir having sung at Tenby, Carmarthen, Kidwelly, Llandeilo, Neath, Barry Island, Penarth and Newport bandstands in between.
To date, this innovative, ambitious and unique choral event has raised over £10.000 in aid of Alzheimer’s Society Cymru.

Chairman, Gwynlais Phillips, stated: “We are thrilled and delighted by the amount of money we’ve raised for Alzheimer’s Society Cymru – we thought we’d get to £5,000 – we never dreamed we’d smash through to over £10,000.
“This just shows how a dedicated, enthusiastic team of choristers can do something imaginative and different and raise substantial amounts of money for charity.
“And we really want people to see that there is an excitement and drive around Welsh male voice choirs. We are alive and kicking, promoting Welsh cultural traditions, and re-defining ourselves in a fast changing world.”

Côr Meibion De Cymru take part in a Welsh Association of Male Choirs (WAMC) massed choir concert in Liverpool Anglican Cathedral on Saturday, June 27 – another example of the opportunities and thrilling experiences that the choir offers, as well as being the perfect way to develop and maintain cognitive resilience.
The Choir’s next major project is hosting a pop-up choir event in Cardiff during September and October to raise funds for Prostate Cymru. Men of all ages will be invited to join the exciting 9-week singing challenge. More information can be found on Prostate Cymru’s Men United In Song page.
