Monmouthshire says thank you to foster carers

COMMUNITIES across Monmouthshire are stronger because of the dedication of local foster carers, who were recognised at a special appreciation event hosted by Foster Wales Monmouthshire on Friday (June 5).

The event brought together foster carers from across the county to thank them for their dedication, compassion and commitment to providing safe, stable and nurturing homes for children in care. It also offered an opportunity to reflect on the positive and lasting impact foster carers make, not only on individual young lives but across the wider community.

Foster carers are at the heart of the community, offering much more than a place to live. They provide guidance, encouragement and a sense of belonging, helping children and young people to build confidence, develop relationships and achieve their full potential, often during some of the most challenging times in their lives.

Their support enables many children to remain close to their local area, schools, friends and support networks, which is crucial to their wellbeing and long-term outcomes.

Monmouthshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Social Care, Safeguarding and Accessible Health Services, Councillor Ian Chandler, said: “Our foster carers play an incredibly important role in our communities. They not only provide a home for children and young people, but also care and stability when they need it most.

“We are hugely grateful for everything they do. This event is only a small way of recognising their dedication and the life-changing difference they make every single day.”

Foster Wales Monmouthshire is encouraging more people to consider fostering, with different options to match different lives and circumstances. These include short-term care, long-term care, short breaks or respite, and parent-and-child placements, each offering the chance to make a lasting difference to a child or family.

With the right support, training and guidance from the dedicated local team, becoming a foster carer can be a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference, helping ensure more children can stay within their community, close to what matters most to them.
