TWO OF WALES’ most respected male voice choirs have joined forces to support Wrexham’s bid to become UK City of Culture 2029.
Froncysyllte Male Voice Choir and Rhosllanerchrugog Male Voice Choir are proud to support the Wrecsam2029 campaign, recognising the bid as a major opportunity to celebrate the county borough’s cultural heritage, creativity and community spirit.
Both choirs have deep roots in the area’s industrial, linguistic and musical traditions. Together, they represent generations of Welsh choral excellence and continue to perform across Wales, the UK and beyond as ambassadors for the region’s culture and identity.
The choirs believe Wrecsam2029 offers a powerful opportunity to tell Wrexham’s story through its people, communities, language, heritage and arts.
Geraint Phillips of Rhos Male Voice Choir said: “Our choir has always believed in the power of music to bring people together and celebrate our shared heritage. Joining the Wrecsam2029 campaign alongside Froncysyllte Male Voice Choir was a natural step for us.
“It gives us the chance not only to showcase the talent and traditions of our region, but also to encourage the wider community to support Wrexham’s bid and show what makes our home so special.”
Morgan Thomas, Culture Bid Coordinator for Wrecsam2029, said: “We are delighted to have the support of Froncysyllte Male Voice Choir and Rhosllanerchrugog Male Voice Choir.
“Male voice choirs are a vital part of Wrexham’s culture, heritage and future, bringing people together through music and creating pride and connection in our communities.
“As the only Welsh bid for UK City of Culture 2029, we have a fantastic opportunity to celebrate Wales’ rich choral tradition on a national stage. I’m excited to continue working with both choirs as the bid develops, and their support is invaluable to our campaign.”
The choirs are exploring opportunities to collaborate on performances and cultural events that support the bid and showcase the area’s rich musical tradition in the lead-up to the final decision.
Simon Ap Gryffudd Atkinson of Froncysyllte Male Voice Choir, said: “Although we are two separate choirs, we share many of the same values and traditions.
“Alongside our passion for music, there is a strong sense of friendship, camaraderie and community among our members. Given our close geographical ties and long-standing connections, coming together to support the Wrecsam2029 campaign felt like a natural step.
“Both choirs are proud of the communities we represent, and we are delighted to support an initiative that celebrates the culture, heritage and future of our area.”
As organisations deeply rooted in their communities, both choirs recognise that the success of the Wrecsam2029 campaign depends on strong support from residents, volunteers, schools, community groups, businesses and cultural organisations across the county borough.
Froncysyllte Male Voice Choir and Rhosllanerchrugog Male Voice Choir encourage local people to get involved in the campaign and help show why Wrexham deserves to be named UK City of Culture 2029.
The choirs would like to extend an invitation to other Ambassador musical groups to get in touch to join them in collaboration.
