RSPCA animal welfare ‘champions’ recognised in King’s Birthday Honours

Carole Stevens, Team Leader, RSPCA’s Llys Nini Branch

TWO PEOPLE from the RSPCA who have dedicated their lives to animal welfare have been recognised in the King’s Birthday Honours List.

David Bowles, Head of Public Affairs and Campaigns, from Mole Valley, has been made an OBE for services to animal welfare.

Carole Stevens, Team Leader at the RSPCA’s Llys Nini Branch in Penllergaer, has been awarded a BEM for services to animal welfare and to the community in Swansea.

Speaking about their achievements, RSPCA Chief Executive Jo Rowland, said: “Both David and Carole have dedicated their lives to championing animal welfare and building a better world for every kind. These honours are richly deserved.

“David has been a long-standing advocate and campaigner for animals and has kept them at the heart of the political agenda for over three decades.

“This has included tireless campaigning on major issues, including the introduction of the Animal Welfare Act, the ban on the live export of livestock, hunting with dogs – and more recently the Renters’ Rights Act.

“Carole has been with our Llys Nini Branch for an incredible 50 years. In that time she has helped to rehabilitate and rehome many thousands of animals and I’m delighted that her incredible dedication has been recognised.

“The staff and volunteers at our branches up and down the country are the lifeblood of the RSPCA and we couldn’t do what we do without them.”
