Sam Rowlands MS supports UK charity at Wrexham Maelor Hospital

Sam Rowlands MS for Fflint Wrecsam with Spread a Smile CEO Lucy Jackson and two of the entertainers at Wrexham Maelor Hospital paediatric ward

SAM ROWLANDS, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Fflint Wrecsam, recently helped to cheer up sick children at Wrexham Maelor Hospital.

Mr Rowlands, Welsh Conservative spokesperson for Families, joined entertainers from the UK Charity Spread A Smile in the paediatric ward.

Mr Rowlands said: “It was great to be able to meet some of the organisers of this fantastic charity and see how their entertainers interact with very ill children.

“It was wonderful to watch the magicians and the singing fairy go from bed to bed spending time with each child and their families. It clearly had a positive impact on the children who really enjoyed the visit of the entertainers.

“I was glad to be able to show my support for the first visit of Spread A Smile to the children’s ward at Wrexham Maelor Hospital.”

Spread a Smile is a UK charity that brings joy, distraction and a much-needed sense of normality to seriously ill children in NHS hospitals and hospices.

Through a carefully curated team of professional magicians, musicians, singers, artists, fairies and therapy dogs, they deliver personalised bedside entertainment to children facing some of the most difficult times of their lives.

The charity, who have a dedicated virtual Spread a Smile entertainment session for patients every other week in Wrexham, began working with Wrexham Maelor Hospital in October 2021.

The hospital play team take a laptop bed to bed so that all inpatients can enjoy dedicated one-to-one time with their entertainers. Patients can also access any of their Spread a Smile group virtual sessions throughout the week, and have also supported a number of long-term Wrexham patients in the community with virtual visits at home.
