The Welsh Government has been urged to press ahead with improvements to key roads in North-East Wales.
THE MEMBER of the Senedd for Fflint Wrecsam raised the issue during questions to First Minister Rhun ap Iorwerth in the Senedd this week.
Mr Rowlands, who is also the Welsh Conservative spokesperson for Finance, highlighted the significance of the A55, A483 and A494 to the region’s economy, saying businesses in his constituency rely heavily on strong transport links.
He told the chamber: “You’ll be aware that my constituency of Flint Wrexham is probably most affected by those economic relationships with North-West England, and businesses there tell me of the importance of a road network, in particular those artery routes of the A55, A483 and the A494.
“To be fair to the previous Government in this place, towards the end of the last term they made some significant commitments to improving those roads in Flint Wrexham.
“Will your Government continue to support those improvements, and will you look at further investments on those roads in my constituency of Flint Wrexham?”
Responding, the First Minister said the Welsh Government remained committed to ensuring communities and businesses had the infrastructure they need.
He said this would be delivered through the work of the Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Energy and Planning, alongside the Deputy Minister for Transport, with a focus on maintaining a “robust road network”.
Mr Rowlands said continued investment in major roads was vital to support economic growth, improve connectivity and strengthen links between North-East Wales and neighbouring regions.
