Welsh Ambulance Service declares Critical Incident

THE WELSH AMBULACE SERVICE has declared a Critical Incident because of exceptionally high demand on its 999 service.

The Trust said call volumes have risen by 31% compared with the same Monday-to-Thursday period two weeks ago.

It has received around 400 additional emergency 999 calls each day this week, with demand yesterday around 50% higher than normal.

The service said it is working hard to provide the best possible care for patients, but urged the public to only call 999 in a genuine emergency.

People who need medical advice are being directed to the NHS 111 Wales website, which offers guidance on a range of health issues, including how to stay well in warm weather.

That advice includes drinking plenty of fluids, keeping cool, and checking in on vulnerable family members, friends and neighbours.

The ambulance service said further details are available in its full statement on the Critical Incident.
