Housing association backs men’s mental health charity

ClwydAlyn staff choose ANDYSMANCLUB as Charity of the Year following workplace vote.

STAFF at North Wales housing association ClwydAlyn have chosen men’s mental health charity ANDYSMANCLUB as their Charity of the Year.

The St Asaph-based organisation selected the charity following a staff-wide vote, with ANDYSMANCLUB receiving overwhelming support over a shortlist of other nominated causes.

ClwydAlyn’s Sports and Social Committee will now organise a year-long programme of fundraising events to raise money and awareness for the charity.

Planned activities include a football tournament, darts competition, charity golf day, quizzes and sponsored challenges, bringing together colleagues and local communities in support of men’s mental health.

ANDYSMANCLUB is a UK-wide suicide prevention charity offering free peer-to-peer support groups for men aged 18 and over. Founded in 2016, it aims to tackle the stigma surrounding men’s mental health through open conversation under its well-known message: “It’s okay to talk.”

Annie Jackson, Chair of ClwydAlyn’s Sports and Social Committee, said: “We were delighted to see so many colleagues taking part in the vote to choose our Charity of the Year.

“ANDYSMANCLUB carries out incredibly important work, supporting men who may be struggling and reminding them that they don’t need to face challenges alone.

“We have an exciting programme of fundraising initiatives lined up, kicking off with our Charity Football Tournament at Colwyn Bay FC on Sunday, July 26. Any local teams who’d like to join in can contact us for more information.

“Our goal is to raise as much money as possible for ANDYSMANCLUB, whilst increasing awareness of the support that’s available locally.”

Luke Ambler, co-founder of ANDYSMANCLUB, thanked ClwydAlyn staff for their support.

He said: “I just want to say a huge thank you to everyone for supporting our mission. Your generosity and belief in what we’re doing mean the world, not just to me, but to the charity and the countless people it will help.

“At ANDYSMANCLUB, we are first and foremost an awareness organisation. Our mission has always been to break the stigma around men’s mental health and ensure that no man ever feels alone in his struggles.

“While fundraising is crucial to keeping our work going, it’s the conversations, the visibility and the ripple effect of raising awareness that truly drives change.”

The first fundraising event will be a charity football tournament at Colwyn Bay FC on Sunday, July 26, with local teams invited to take part.

ANDYSMANCLUB currently runs support groups in Mold, Deeside and Wrexham every Monday evening, except on bank holidays. ClwydAlyn said further fundraising events will be announced throughout the coming year as staff continue their efforts to support the charity.
