SAM ROWLANDS Rowlands MS for Fflint Wrecsam has called for more support for small and independent businesses in Wrexham.

Mr Rowlands, Welsh Conservative spokesperson for Finance and Families, a keen supporter of the bid, was speaking in the Senedd during First Minister’s question time.

He said: “You’ll know that, on these benches, there’s been strong and consistent support for the city of culture bid in Wrexham.

“And you’ll also recognise the role that businesses, and particularly the small, independent businesses, will play if successful. They will be at the heart of ensuring that there’s a great welcome for people to showcase all that Wrexham has to offer.”

Mr Rowlands asked the First Minister, Rhub ap Ioweth, how did he think the Welsh Government could support those small and independent businesses, if this bid is successful.

The First Minister said they wanted to make sure that they align everything behind small businesses in Wrexham, to make the most of the opportunities that will come with this.

Mr Rowlands added: “I do hope the Welsh Government will get behind this bid as it is a tremendous opportunity to continue to promote and showcase all that Wrexham has to offer.

“I welcome any moves to support and help the city to thrive financially and this will definitely be a fantastic chance to boost the economy for Wrexham.”
