CONSTITUENCY Senedd Member Cristiana Emsley MS has published a new opinion article following a Senedd debate on the Welsh Government’s Nation of Sanctuary policy, arguing that ministers have failed to provide adequate evidence demonstrating the policy’s effectiveness.
In her article, ‘The Questions Nobody Answered During This Week’s Senedd Debate’, Ms Emsley argues that while the debate focused heavily on compassion, inclusion and solidarity, insufficient attention was given to how integration outcomes, safeguarding measures and public safety considerations are being assessed.
Ms Emsley is calling for greater transparency regarding employment outcomes, housing support, integration measures and safeguarding data, and has urged the Welsh Government to publish clearer evidence showing how its policies are being evaluated.
Cristiana Emsley MS said: “Wales can be both compassionate and accountable. Supporting vulnerable people and asking difficult questions should not be mutually exclusive. If ministers believe these policies are succeeding, the public deserve to see the evidence.”
The opinion article also argues that scrutiny strengthens democratic institutions and encourages a more open discussion about the practical outcomes of integration policies.
