BUSINESSWOMAN Brooke Davies is hoping to sell coffee from a trailer to walkers, dog owners and local tradesmen.
The 20-year-old has applied for planning permission to operate a mobile coffee trailer on a former railway line in Talywain, Pontypool where she and her mum, Kathryn, already operate a dog grooming and boarding business.
“When we want to go out for a coffee we have to travel at least to Cwmbran or Abergavenny so we thought it would be nice just to have somewhere a bit more local just to pop in and have a coffee,” said Ms Davies.
She has applied to Torfaen Borough Council as the Coffee Carriage for the siting and operation of the non-permanent trailer to serve hot and cold drinks and light refreshments at the Old Station House in Church Road.
The application states the trailer could operate from 9am to 3pm Monday to Friday and until 4pm on Saturdays and 2pm on Sundays and bank holidays with its location described as “part of a former railway corridor now used informally by walkers, cyclist and dog walkers, reflecting the wider network of historic routes in the area.”
It adds: “these former railway lines are commonly repurposed as recreational routes across Torfaen, providing access to the countryside and local heritage features.”
The proposal is described as “dog friendly offering a hydration station and dog treats for visiting dogs.”
Ms Davies said: “With all the dog walkers, and the welders workshop here, there is a big footfall going past.”
A search for a trailer will begin if the council planning department approves the application with Ms Davies stating an opening date will “depend on how fast I can find a trailer.”
The application also states the trailer is expected to generate low levels of noise, traffic and waste, and “will not result in significant adverse impact on the character, appearance or residential amenity of the surrounding area.”
