A POWYS primary school is celebrating after being removed from special measures following a successful Estyn monitoring visit.
Inspectors judged that Llangors C.I.W. Primary School has made sufficient progress against all recommendations from its previous core inspection. As a result, His Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Education and Training in Wales has removed the school from the list of schools requiring special measures.
The Estyn monitoring report highlights significant progress in safeguarding, leadership, teaching and learning, and self-evaluation.
Key improvements highlighted in the report include:
- Strengthened safeguarding arrangements – leaders, staff and governors have established a strong culture of safeguarding, with robust systems, training and procedures in place.
- Stronger leadership and governance – leadership capacity has been enhanced, strategic direction has improved, and governors are playing an increasingly effective role in supporting and challenging the school.
- Improved teaching and learning – teaching is more consistent, learning is better matched to pupils’ needs, and pupils are making stronger progress across the curriculum.
- More effective self-evaluation and improvement planning – leaders use robust monitoring and assessment processes to drive improvements to teaching, learning and pupil outcomes.
- Strong partnership working – inspectors praised the contribution of staff, governors, parents, regional partners and the wider community in supporting the school’s improvement journey.
The report also notes that leaders have established clear expectations, strengthened safeguarding practices, improved strategic leadership and enhanced teaching and learning across the school. Inspectors recognised the commitment of the leadership team, staff and governors in driving improvements, as well as the valuable contribution made by parents, governors and the wider community in supporting positive outcomes for pupils.
