NEYLAND opened up a five point gap between themselves and the bottom two in Division 1 after coming from behind to beat Fishguard 2-1 on Saturday (Jan 29).
Fishguard started quickly and within the first two minutes had a penalty after a trip on the Fishguard striker Stephen Lewis who dusted himself off to put the ball in the back of the net. Patrick Hannon got something on the ball but not enough to stop the goal.
Neyland eventually settled and got them self back in the game, creating a coupe of chances and young Winger Matt Phillips hit the cross bar but the score remained 0-1 at half-time.
With a bit of belief Neyland continued to press and equalised after Sean Hannon sent a through ball to Mike Chandler feet and he finished smartly past the keeper to make it 1-1.
Fishguard continued with the bulk of possession but now with their tails up Neyland went ahead on 84 minutes when Mike Chandler picked the ball up and struck it cleanly with his trusty left foot from 30 yards and the ball sailed into the back of the net.
Fishguard looked for an equaliser but the young Nomads held firm to see out the win and gain an important 3 points.
On Saturday, February 5, Neyland host Merlins Bridge while Fishguard host St Ishmaels.
