ON TUESDAY (Feb 23) police confirmed that a Renault Megane collided with a horse and carriage which was part of a funeral precession.
The incident took place at around 10:40, when the carriage was on its way to Coychurch Crematorium in Bridgend.
The collision caused severe injuries to the horse and also injured the driver.
The grieving family who were following behind the carriage were left devastated after the ordeal.
The horse’s owner Mark Evans from Carmarthenshire and wife Helen, have shared the pictures in a bid to make drivers think more about road safety.
The couple who run the horse drawn carriage service, said they are absolutely “devastated” by the loss of their beloved horse.
Due to the extent of the injuries, the horse had to be euthanised the scene.
The funeral was for Elizabeth Maureen Morris. Her family have described how they feel like the funeral was “sabotaged” by the accident.

His wife Helen said: “To say we are devastated is an understatement.”
Mrs Morris’ family have also spoken of their grief.
A member of the family has said: “Our grandmother always said that she had wanted horses at her funeral and we were so pleased to have been able to carry out her wishes.”
“It is just horrific that it ended like this.” They continued.
“The car ploughed into the side and the windows of the hearse just seemed to explode, the horse was badly injured and the coach master was hurt too.
“Every time I close my eyes I can see the awful image.
“Our grandfather had been so proud and then he had to watch that happen at his wife’s funeral.
“We had worked so hard to give her the best send off possible and then this happened.”
South Wales Police have said that an investigation into the cause of the crash, is ongoing.
