PLANS to convert a vacant former shop into a café in the heart of Llangefni could help boost “vitality and footfall” in the town.
Planners at Anglesey County Council are to consider an application for the change of use of the commercial premises on Bulkeley Square.
The plans, which concern the Nelson building on Bridge Street, have been submitted by Sasmaz Ugur.

The proposed change of use would allow the building, formerly a Savers shop, to be used for the sale of food and drink for consumption on site.
The plans stated that the loss of the building’s former retail activity had “contributed” to a drop in footfall and commercial activity in the Bulkeley Square area.
They claim that the new development was expected to create a footfall increase of 15-20% in the immediate area.
It was also hoped the establishment would create between five and 10 jobs, including baristas, kitchen staff and management roles.
The proposal says the development would contribute to the local business rates and by encouraging social interaction could help “further boost the town’s vitality”.
The development scheme would include minor internal modifications to accommodate seating and a food preparation area.
The existing shop frontage would be retained but with signage alterations.
It is proposed that the premises would not be open before 8am or after 11pm on weekdays and Saturdays nor before 11am or after 10pm on Sundays.
The application states in its conclusion: “The development will enhance the commercial diversity of the area while ensuring minimal impact on the surrounding environment.”
The site is also served by public transport and “no significant increase in traffic congestion is anticipated”.
