SAM ROWLANDS, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Fflint Wrecsam says Plaid’s budget has the wrong priorities.
Mr Rowlands, Welsh Conservative spokesperson for finance, was commenting after the Plaid Cymru Welsh Government failed to secure the votes to pass their first supplementary budget.
He said: “Only last week I said I was extremely concerned as I felt that we needed a budget to support enterprise, help small businesses and attract investment into Wales, especially in my constituency of Fflint Wrecsam. This budget does not deliver on these priorities.
“It was a missed opportunity to address even slightly some of those issues in the economy. In Fflint Wrecsam I want to see investment in infrastructure, better transport links, and policies that encourage business to expand, innovate and create jobs. All we are offered is the same tired approach we saw under Labour despite Plaid Cymru’s promises of change.
“There is nothing here to support small businesses, cut taxes, or kickstart economic growth. Once again, our farmers have been overlooked, and not a single penny of the extra funding Wales received for Additional Learning Needs (ALN) has actually been allocated to ALN support here.
“Plaid Cymru cannot escape responsibility. Having propped up the very Labour budgets that left Wales with sluggish growth and struggling public services, this supplementary budget is a missed opportunity that fails our businesses, farmers, and children.”
Plaid Cymru, who do not have a majority in the Senedd, needed support from opposition Members of the Senedd to get the supplementary budget passed but failed to get enough votes, with 49 MSs voting against the budget and 44 backing it.
