Producers of the BAFTA-nominated series are calling on people across Wales to consider rehoming a rescue dog as shelters face rising demand
RESCUE centres across Wales are facing growing pressure as demand for rehoming services reaches unprecedented levels — and now Channel 4’s BAFTA-nominated series The Dog House is appealing to people in Wales who may be considering adopting a rescue dog.
The popular programme, which follows the emotional journeys of abandoned and unwanted dogs as they are matched with new owners, is currently looking for applicants from across Wales who would be willing to share their story on screen.
Producers are keen to hear from first-time dog owners, families, individuals, and people seeking a companion for an existing pet. The team is also encouraging applications from those who may be looking for companionship or emotional support following a difficult period in their lives.

Since its launch in 2019, The Dog House has attracted millions of viewers by highlighting the life-changing bond between rescue dogs and the people who give them a second chance. The series is filmed at Woodgreen Pets Charity, where experienced staff carefully match dogs with suitable new homes.
The appeal comes at a time when rehoming charities across the UK — including those in Wales — are under severe strain. Last year more than 47,000 people contacted Dogs Trust about giving up their dogs, while the RSPCA reports the number of dogs in its care has doubled since 2020. Local shelters in Wales are experiencing similar pressures as the cost-of-living crisis continues to impact families.
Despite the challenges, the benefits of dog ownership remain clear. Studies show that around 90 per cent of dog owners say their pet improves their quality of life, with significant physical and mental health benefits also reported.
The production team behind The Dog House says the series aims not only to help dogs find loving homes but also to celebrate the positive impact pets can have on people’s lives.
Anyone in Wales who is considering adopting a rescue dog — or knows someone who might be — can apply online at c4thedoghousetakepart.co.uk
For one dog in need, it could be the start of a new life — and for an adopter, the beginning of a special bond.
