Planning a trip to Asia? Here are some important things to know

Limestone Island, Philipines.

Asia is a popular continent for a variety of reasons. A diverse range of cultures, endless vibrant cities to explore, and plenty of rich history to immerse yourself in are just a few of the reasons people travel there. Additionally, Asian countries are often very reasonably priced, making it a more cost-effective option for travellers.

So, if you’re planning to backpack around Asia or are visiting an Asian country, here are a few things you should know prior to arranging your trip.

Things to consider when travelling to an Asian country

Check for entry requirements

Different countries have different entry requirements for tourists – Brits included. One example is the Philippines Travel Information System (eTravel), which is an eTravel pass that you need to have to get in or out of the country. Like the Philippines, many other countries require a visa for entry, so be sure to check in advance if you need a visa and which type of visa you need.

As well as visas, many countries require proof of vaccination certificates to protect you while you travel and to reduce the spread of diseases. Always look into whether or not your destination(s) requires any vaccinations.

Plan a manageable itinerary

With so much to see and do around Asia, it’s easy to attempt to cram in too many things in one trip. But doing this can be tiring and cause you to rush your experiences, which can lessen your enjoyment. Instead make a list of attractions and activities that are of interest to you, and pick out a handful that you definitely don’t want to miss and make a plan from there.

Be wary of timings

Weather in Asian countries can be drastically different compared to the UK, so it’s a good idea to plan the timing of your trip accordingly. For instance, in South Asian countries like Thailand, Laos, and India, summer monsoon rains occur from June until September, so you may want to consider visiting outside of these months.

Get planning!

There’s no doubt that planning a trip anywhere is incredibly exciting, but Asia in particular has a lot to offer. However it’s important to consider things like weather conditions and entry requirements that could disrupt your vacation, and bear in mind that an overly ambitious itinerary could put a damper on your trip.
