WELSH renewable energy developer, Bute Energy, has today launched a non-statutory consultation on its proposals for Lan Fawr and Bryn Rhudd Energy Parks. The two new onshore wind developments in Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion have the potential to deliver clean, green energy for thousands of homes while providing long-term investment in local communities.
This marks the first opportunity for local people, stakeholders, and statutory consultees to help shape the proposals. During the six-week engagement, Bute Energy is inviting feedback on all aspects of the projects, from technical and environmental considerations to opportunities for community benefit. The window to share views and local knowledge closes on December 18 at 23:59.
Lan Fawr Energy Park is proposed to be located approximately 10km south-east of Tregaron, sat across the Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion boundary, and could include up to 40 wind turbines with a maximum tip height of 220m, generating around 268MW of renewable electricity.
2km north-west of Lan Fawr, Bryn Rhudd Energy Park would be located approximately 3km south-east of Tregaron, in Ceredigion. It could include up to 15 wind turbines with a maximum tip height of 220m, generating around 100.5MW of renewable electricity.
These projects would generate enough clean, green energy to power the equivalent of up to 250,000 homes and displace around 360,500 tonnes of carbon dioxide annually*.
Emily Saunders, Project Manager, said: “We’re looking forward to sharing our draft plans with the local community and welcome any information from residents that would help inform and shape the designs.
“These two energy parks would contribute significantly to reducing our reliance on imported fossil fuels, strengthening our energy security and bringing a huge investment to the rural economy.”
If awarded planning permission by Welsh Government, Lan Fawr and Bryn Rhudd Energy Parks would deliver significant long-term investment in the area, including an annual Community Benefit Fund of around £2 million over its operational lifetime – totalling approximately £79.2 million overall. Shaped by local insight, the grant funding would support local services, projects, and initiatives, while strengthening the local economy through jobs and supply chain opportunities.
As part of the non-statutory consultation, Bute Energy will be hosting public information events where residents can meet the project team, ask questions, and provide feedback.
A drop-in event will be hosted on November 26 – between 15:00 and 20:00 at Llanddewi Brefi Community Centre, Tregaron.
An online bilingual webinar will also be held on December 3 between 18:00 and 19:00 with a presentation followed by a Q&A session. Registration for the webinar can be completed on Bute Energy’s website.
This is the first stage of consultation for Lan Fawr and Bryn Rhudd Energy Parks, and the detailed designs of the energy parks will evolve over the coming months, and there will be further opportunities to comment on the proposals next year.
More details about the proposals are available on the project websites where there are also details about how to provide feedback.
These two developers are part of Bute Energy’s family of onshore wind energy parks across Wales, representing a £3bn investment into the Welsh economy. Aimed at decarbonising the energy system and gaining energy independence, Bute Energy could power more than 2.25m homes by 2030.
