Powys early years settings praised in Estyn national report

Welsh-medium nurseries highlighted for strong community links and culture of continuous improvement

TWO Welsh-medium early years settings in Powys have been singled out for praise in Estyn’s latest Early Insight report, which highlights examples of strong practice from across Wales.

Cylch Meithrin Y Drenewydd and Cylch Meithrin Llanrhaeadr Ym Mochnant both feature in the report, which provides an early snapshot of inspection findings ahead of Estyn’s full annual publication. The report is designed to help early years providers reflect on their own practice and learn from effective approaches identified nationwide.

Cylch Meithrin Y Drenewydd was commended for its strong links with the local community and the positive impact these relationships have on children’s experiences, progress and wellbeing. Inspectors noted that meaningful engagement with the community enriches learning opportunities and supports children’s overall development.

Meanwhile, Cylch Meithrin Llanrhaeadr Ym Mochnant was recognised for its robust self-evaluation processes, which have helped create a culture of continuous improvement. Estyn highlighted how effective leadership has embedded systems that drive high standards and ensure provision is closely matched to children’s needs.

Councillor James Gibson-Watt, Powys County Council’s Cabinet Member for a Learning Powys, said the recognition was a source of pride for the county.

“We are proud that two of Powys’ early years settings have been recognised by Estyn for their excellent practice,” he said. “This achievement reflects the dedication of staff and the high quality of early years provision across the county.

“Giving our youngest learners the best possible start in life is a key priority for the council, and this recognition shows that our early years providers are on the right track.

“We will continue working closely with all early years providers to maintain and build on these high standards of care and education for children throughout Powys.”
