POWYS County Council is encouraging residents to show their support for the Armed Forces community ahead of Armed Forces Day tomorrow (June 27).
Through its commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant, the council works to ensure that serving personnel, veterans and their families are treated fairly and have access to the support they need. Armed Forces Day is an annual opportunity to recognise their service, dedication and contribution to communities across the UK.
Armed Forces Day provides an opportunity for communities across the UK to come together in support of the men and women who serve, or have served, in the Armed Forces. It also marks the culmination of Armed Forces Week, during which people across the country show their appreciation for the Armed Forces community.
Councillor Matthew Dorrance, Deputy Leader of Powys County Council, Armed Forces Champion and Chair of the Armed Forces Covenant Regional Partnership Powys, said: “Armed Forces Day is an important opportunity to recognise the dedication, professionalism and sacrifice of our Armed Forces personnel, veterans, reservists, cadets and military families.
“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all those who serve or have served in uniform. Their commitment to protecting our nation and supporting communities both at home and overseas deserves our deepest respect and appreciation.

“We should also recognise the vital role played by military families, whose support enables our servicemen and servicewomen to carry out their duties.
“As a council, we remain committed to supporting the Armed Forces community through our work with the Armed Forces Covenant and our regional partnership.
“I encourage residents to take part in local Armed Forces Day events and take a moment to thank those who have devoted their lives to serving our country. Every gesture of appreciation makes a difference.”
