On Saturday, the sixth “March for Independence” event took place in Bangor, Gwynedd, as thousands of people gathered in support of Welsh independence. The event was organized by YesCymru and All Under One Banner Cymru, and the significant turnout demonstrated the growing demand for independence.
Prominent figures, including Plaid Cymru leader Rhun ap Iorwerth, addressed the crowd. Rhun ap Iorwerth noted that an idea that was once ridiculed now plays a prominent role in our national political discourse.
This rally follows a similar gathering in Swansea in May, where thousands of individuals also came out in support of Welsh independence. While Geraint Thomas, a director of Yes Cymru, had initially expected a turnout of around 6,000 to 8,000 people, the organizers claimed that more than 10,000 attendees participated in the event.
“To see so many people here in Bangor is great,” said Geraint. “It shows the power of the message and the tremendous increase in support for independence that is currently taking place.
“Our aim here today is to spread the message further and to try to show people what is possible for us as a nation.”
