A Cardiff secondary school was placed into lockdown on Monday afternoon (October 13) after a pupil made what was described as a serious “claim”, prompting a swift response from staff and police.
Officers from South Wales Police were called to Mary Immaculate High School in Caerau shortly after the alarm was raised. The school, which has around 800 pupils, immediately activated its lockdown procedures before deciding to evacuate the site as a precautionary measure.
The school said in a statement on its official Facebook page that in response to the pupil’s claim, a lockdown was put in place and officers attended. Based on the nature of the claim, a decision was taken to evacuate as a precaution. On further investigation, the claim was found to be false and the evacuation lifted. Contrary to rumours on social media, no weapons were brought to school, and the pupils were safe at all times. The afternoon concluded without incident, and the school returned to normal within the hour.
The situation was quickly resolved following an investigation, and pupils were able to return to their classrooms once the all-clear was given.
