Ammanford family set for spooktacular Swansea Bay Dark Run for Tŷ Hafan Children’s Hospice

An Ammanford family is getting ready to glow up – literally! – and have some spooktacular fun for Tŷ Hafan Children’s Hospice and is urging others to do the same.

The Tommason-Harries family have been supported Tŷ Hafan since 2019 after Fenton, 11, was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, global development delay and sensory processing disorder.

Mum Thea says that without the help of the iconic Welsh hospice charity they would not be able to cope with the challenges that Fenton’s conditions mean they all have to face daily.

Now Thea, Fenton and big sister Lacey, 13, are getting ready to do Tŷ Hafan’s new Swansea Bay Dark Run on Saturday, October14 and are encouraging as many other people from the area to sign up too.

“Tŷ  Hafan have been amazing support,” says Thea. “We were lucky to have a stay at the hospice before lockdown. We have attended the Carmarthen group and how lovely it is to see the staff and meet other parents and children.

“Lacey loves the crafts and Fenton just loves to see everyone. We have also taken part in Tŷ  Hafan’s Kidwelly group. That’s definitelyone beautiful venue and we’re looking forward to going again.

“We’re really looking forward to getting involved in this new Dark Run fun run – and it’s a great way for people to do something for Hallowe’en and support this amazing Welsh charity at the same time.”

James Davies-Hale, Head of Fundraising at Tŷ Hafan, said: “Swansea Bay Dark Run is a brilliant new opportunity for family and friends to get dressed up, get together and have a great evening out while you’ll be helping to raise funds to support Tŷ Hafan’s work with children with life-shortening conditions and their families who live in your local area, and beyond.

“Plus we are thrilled that Principality Building Society have pledged to match-fund Swansea Bay Run for Tŷ Hafan up to £12,500 which is amazing!

“This epic 3.5km run starts behind the Civic Centre and will take you out along the promenade and then loops back around through the Cenotaph and past the Secret Beach Bar and Kitchen before taking you back to your starting point.

“Everyone who takes part will get a free large glowstick and a glow in the dark medal. And don’t forget that thanks to our friends at Principality Building Society, whatever you raise will be doubled. What’s not to love about that?

“Spaces are filling quickly though, so to make sure you don’t miss out, go to: https://www.tyhafan.org/events/swansea-bay-dark-run and sign up now.”
