CANDO secures £5,000 lottery grant to support neurodiverse community

CANDO (Carmarthen Aberystwyth Neurodiverse Outreach), a local community group, has been awarded a £5,000 grant from the National Lottery Community Fund to further its work supporting neurodiverse individuals across South Wales.

The funding will enable CANDO to offer days out, community events, and ongoing support for neurodiverse people in the Carmarthen and Aberystwyth areas.

CANDO runs regular sessions at the Tesco Community Room in Aberystwyth on the second and fourth Fridays of each month, and at the Living Well Centre, Parc Dewi Sant, Carmarthen on the first and third Mondays of each month. Both sessions run from 10:30 to 12:30 and benefit from ample parking and nearby restaurants.

As a non-profit, community-led organisation, CANDO is dedicated to supporting individuals with autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and other neurodiverse conditions. The group provides guidance to people and families from pre-diagnosis through post-diagnosis stages, and beyond, while promoting inclusion, awareness, and self-advocacy across local communities.

Chairman Stephen said the funding would make “a real difference in helping us expand activities, reduce isolation, and continue creating supportive spaces for neurodiverse people in west Wales.”
